Fish Biriyani

Ingredients

Fish (cut into medium pieces) - 400 gms
Curd - 1/2 cup
Ajwain (optional) - 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
Garam Masala powder - 1 tsp
Green chilli (slit into half) - 2
Ginger garlic paste - 2 tbsp
Onion (sliced) - 2 medium
Fried onion - 1 cup
Mint leaves - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
Basmati Rice (half cooked) - 2 cups
Olive oil - 1 tbsp
Oil for frying

For fish marination

Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Fish masala (optional) - 1 tsp
Salt to taste

Method

1. Marinate fish by adding red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside for 1/2 an hour.
2. Soak rice for 1/2 an hour. Half cook it by adding 1 inch cinnamon stick, 2 cloves, 2 green cardamom and 1 star anise.
3. In a deep non stick pan, shallow fry the marinated fish in very little oil.
4. Take out the fried fish in a tissue paper.
5. In a bowl add the fried fish, red chilli powder, fried onion, curd, ajwain (optional), turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, lemon juice, mint leaves and coriander leaves. Mix well.
6. In the same pan in which you have fried the fish, put little more oil and add the sliced onions to it. When it becomes golden brown colour, add the green chilli and ginger garlic paste.
7. After sometime, add the fried fish mixture into this. Mix well.
8. Now add the half cooked rice on top of the fish mixture  (dont mix the rice and fish mixture). Spread the rice on top of the fish mixture.
9. On top of the rice, put little curd, mint leaves and little garam masala powder.
10. Close the pan with a lid and let it simmer for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
11. Take off from heat and mix very gently.
12. Serve it hot with raita of your choice.
13. Tasty and healthy dish as we use very little oil. Use olive oil as it is a healthier option.
