Ripe Banana Fritters (Pazham pori)

This is a very popular snack in Kerala. It is made with ripe banana (Ethapazham). A very easy and tasty snack. It is best enjoyed with tea or coffee. One of my favourite snack.

Ingredients

Ripe Banana - 2 nos
Maida - 1 cup
Rice flour - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 1 tbsp (add according to the sweetness of the banana)
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp (optional, this gives the colour)
Salt - 1 pinch
Oil for deep frying
Water as required

Method

  • Peel and cut the bananas into half (horizontal). Then slice it vertically into thin long pieces. Keep this aside.
  • In a bowl, mix maida, rice flour, sugar, turmeric powder and salt with water (add as needed) to get a smooth batter. There should not be any lumps. Keep this aside.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. when it is medium hot, dip each slices of banana in the batter and put it in the oil.
  • When both the sides turn golden brown colour, transfer it into a tissue paper.
  • Serve it hot.
